Creating Custom Fields

Add your own fields in the Order Details. Customize your order data to fit your workflow, not the other way around.

Written by Daniel M.

Why are custom order fields important for dispatchers?

💡 Each custom field added to an order is available as a column in the Orders table. This allows dispatchers to:

  • Track what matters. Create fields for any extra detail your operation needs.

  • Ditch the spreadsheets. Stop exporting just to add a few custom columns to track your orders.

  • Stay organized. Keep all your notes, details, and reminders in one dynamic table.

  • Find fast. Filter, search, and report on your custom data in the Orders table.

Custom fields make critical data searchable and actionable.

Dedicated fields take data out of the shadows and put it where successful dispatchers can filter, report, and act on it.

Common Use Cases

We've noticed many of our power users have found creative ways to twist the originally intended use of some fields, tailoring them for their specific needs.

We've come to realize every dispatcher has a unique process. Thus, with the custom fields we have given you the option to:

  • Add a “Payment Status” field to flag orders as “Check with driver” or “Waiting on customer."

  • Create a “Dispatcher” field to note who’s handling each order.

  • Use a “VIP”, “Issue”, or "Call Preference" field to highlight loads needing special attention.

  • Track any unique detail your business cares about.

Quick Facts

Format.

This version of the Custom Fields allows you to add short text fields as data to your orders.

Visibility.

Currently, custom fields are visible only to your office team in the TMS. Make sure to let us know if you would need any in your drivers' app.

Managing.

You can add, edit, and rename fields anytime.

How to Add a Custom Field

  1. Open any order.

  2. Click “Add New” in the Custom Fields section.

  3. Set the field label (e.g. “Payment Status”, "COD Method", etc.)

  4. Click Save.

Now you can:

  • Enter info in the custom field for any order.

  • Enter different values in the field for each order.

  • Filter, search and export the info from the Orders table, just like you would with the built-in columns.

What’s Next?

Let us know what types of fields you want next. Maybe some of the following:

  • User field to assign orders to dispatchers.

  • Select/Dropdown fields to track statuses, categories, or tags.

  • Checkboxes, dates, numbers, and more.
