Master Filtering, Grouping, and Sorting Orders

А guide on how to arrange your screen and create dynamic, live reports.

Written by Daniel M.

Most trucking software forces you to export data into spreadsheets just so you can organize it, filter it, and complete basic administrative tasks.

We built the Orders table like a spreadsheet — with your live data consolidated in one place — so changes are instantly visible across all views. This makes your Ship.Cars dashboard the single source of truth.

In this article, you’ll learn how to get the most out of your Orders table.

Finding Loads — Arranging and Filtering

The default view shows all orders, which is usually too much information. You need tools to hide irrelevant data and quickly find what matters.

Show / Hide and Move Columns

You can customize your table layout:

  • Drag column headers to reorder them.

  • Hide columns you don’t use to reduce clutter.

  • Pin important columns to the left or right so they remain visible when scrolling.

Quick Search

If you are looking for something specific (e.g., find by driver’s name, a vehicle, or a customer name), just type it in the Quick Search box. The table will instantly match and display relevant orders.

Filtering

You can apply filters to any column.

For example:

  • Filter the Actual Delivery date field to show only orders from last week or within the last X days.

  • Stack multiple filters, like showing only Unpaid orders that belong to a specific Customer.

Filtering Operators

Field Type

Operators

Text

Currency

equals, is, =

Multi Select

Grouping (Organizing the Data)

You can group your orders into meaningful buckets.

For example:

  • Group orders by Driver

  • Group orders by Customer

  • Group orders by Status

Grouping helps you view orders in structured sections, making it easier to analyze and act on them.

Aggregation

For the Payments, Receivables, and Payables columns, the table automatically calculates:

  • Sum (default)

  • Average

  • Minimum

  • Maximum

  • Count

For the Year/Make/Model column listing vehicles, only Count is available.

Quick facts:

  1. You can change a column’s aggregation type (e.g., from Sum to Average) via the column’s options menu.

  2. When you group rows, the table shows calculated totals for each group.

  3. By default, the table shows grand totals at the bottom — calculated across all pages, not just the currently visible orders.

Saved Views

Once you’ve created a functional layout with filters, grouping, and sorting:

  • You can save it as a custom view, and make it available under “My Views.”

  • You can update a saved view or save it as a new one after changes.

  • Saved views are sorted alphabetically.

  • Currently, saved views cannot be renamed, though they can be deleted if no longer needed.

ℹ️ Saving custom views is currently available for users subscribed to any of our premium plans — Starter, Growth, or Professional.
