How to access your pickup PIN code and hidden documents

How the pickup code works, and what unlocks when you arrive

Written by Daniel M.

When a load requires identity verification, the Ship.Cars app reveals a code once the driver is within range of the pickup location — share it with the contact on-site to confirm you're the driver authorized to take the vehicle.

You don't need to do anything in advance. When the shipper has enabled verification on a load, the code stays hidden until you arrive — the app unlocks it automatically based on your location.

Before You Begin

Location Services must be enabled for the Ship.Cars app on your device. The code will not appear without it.

To enable Location Services:

  • iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Ship.Cars → set to "While Using the App" or "Always"

  • Android: Settings → Apps → Ship.Cars → Permissions → Location → Allow

How It Works

  1. Open the load in the Ship.Cars app.

If the shipper has enabled verification, you'll see a notice that the code, VIN, and any vehicle release documents are hidden. This is expected — it means verification is enabled for this load. No action is needed on your end until you're at the pickup location.

  2. Drive to the pickup location.

You need to be within 10 miles of the pickup address for the code to unlock.

  3. Open the load details with the Ship.Cars app in the foreground.

Once you're in range and Location Services are on, click on the "VIEW PIN" button and the code will appear in a pop-up window. Your gatepass and any vehicle release documents also become visible at this point.

  4. Share the code with the pickup contact.

The pickup contact is the person on-site authorized by the shipper to release the vehicle — they've been given the same code by the shipper and will ask you for it. Give them the code shown in the app. If it matches, they'll release the vehicle.

  5. Proceed with the pickup.

After you mark the load as picked up, the VIN becomes visible for your paperwork.

Note: You cannot bypass the location requirement. The code stays hidden until the app confirms you're within 10 miles of the pickup address.

Arriving Earlier Than Expected?

If you arrive significantly ahead of the scheduled pickup time — or if you accepted the load while you were already nearby — you may still access the code normally once you're within range.

However, in these cases, the shipper will receive a routine security notification and they may give you a check-in call. This is expected behavior and no action is needed on your end.

Troubleshooting

➡️ The code isn't showing and I'm at the location

Check all of the following:

  • Location Services are enabled for Ship.Cars (see Before You Begin above)

  • You have internet connection

  • Your GPS confirms you're within 10 miles of the pickup address

If you have no internet, try moving closer to the facility entrance. If the code still doesn't appear, contact the shipper directly — they can determine the appropriate next steps based on their own security policy.

➡️ The pickup contact says my code is wrong

  • Confirm you're reading the code from the correct load

  • In rare cases, the shipper may have updated the while you had the order details open; exit the load and reopen it to get the latest version.

If the mismatch continues, contact the shipper directly.

➡️ I can't enable Location Services

Location access is required by the verification system and cannot be bypassed. You'll need to grant the Ship.Cars app location permission to proceed. If you are having issues with your device, get in touch with the shipper directly; they're best placed to determine the right course of action, based on their own security policy.
